NEW DELHI: Legendary Pakistan captain Wasim Akram, who previously raised concerns about Rohit Sharma being replaced as Mumbai Indians‘ captain, believes that the five-time IPL-winning captain will not be part of MI in the upcoming season.
Akram also expressed his desire to see the dynamic opener join two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders next season under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir.”I have a feeling, he won’t be at Mumbai Indians next season. I would love to see him at KKR. Imagine him open there, Gauti as a mentor, Iyer as a captain. They will have a very strong batting, at that wicket (Eden Gardens). He bats very well on any wicket, he is that great a player. But it will be good to see him at KKR,” Akram told Sportskeeda.
Rohit’s sudden dip in form in the current IPL season has become the talk of the town after his century against Chennai Super Kings on April 14th.
His subsequent scores of 6 against Rajasthan Royals, 8 against Delhi Capitals, 4 against Lucknow Super Giants, 11 against Kolkata Knight Riders, and the latest 4 against SRH, reflecting a worrying trend of consistently falling into single-digit scores.
Last week, Rohit reflected on a whirlwind few months in which he lost his IPL captaincy to Hardik Pandya, only to find Hardik as his deputy for the upcoming T20 World Cup next month.
“See, it is part of life. Not everything will go your way. It has been a great experience,” the Indian skipper said during a media interaction where he was asked about his experience of playing under Pandya in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
