Asia’s longest drive-in beach at Muzhappilangad in Kannur, Kerala is undergoing a renovation. Public Works and Tourism Minister PA Mohamed Riyas has announced that Muzhappilangad Beach, recognised as Asia’s largest drive-in beach, will receive renovations and be unveiled as a New Year gift to Kerala. This announcement was made during the Minister’s recent visit to the beach, which is currently undergoing refurbishment as part of the Dharmadam-Muzhappilangad Comprehensive Tourism Development Project. During his visit, the Minister inspected the ongoing construction, which includes a three-star hotel complex being developed by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC). He noted that 70 percent of the work is complete and emphasised that the construction is being executed to world-class standards. The beautification project for Muzhappilangad beach is expected to cost Rs 233 crore.

In addition to the drive-in experience, various other amenities are being developed here, including walking paths, playgrounds, kiosks. There will be facilities for adventure activities such as water sports, parasailing, power boating, and microlight flights.

Muzhappilangad Beach is located just 7 km from Thalassery Town, which is well-connected to major towns and cities across Kerala. The nearest railway station is Kannur, situated 15 km away, with numerous express trains from major cities in the state arriving daily. The closest airport is Karipur International Airport, located 100 km from the beach, offering connectivity to major cities in India and international destinations.

The speed limit on the beach is restricted to 30 kmph to ensure safety for all visitors; exceeding this limit can result in a fine. There is a nominal entry fee of Rs 30 to access the beach by car. One of the most significant events is the annual Beach Festival, held every April. This festival is a highlight of the local tourism calendar, attracting visitors from near and far. During the festival, the beach comes alive with a variety of exciting activities.
