Batting great Sunil Gavaskar feels the out-of-form India skipper Rohit should take a break from the IPL and instead prepare in earnest for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.
Gavaskar believes the confidence of Rohit has been hurt after a prolonged run of poor scores in the T20 league.
Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “I would say that Rohit should maybe take a break for the time being, and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship final. He can come back again for the last few matches, but right now, (he should) take a little bit of a breather himself.”

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma continued to have a lean run in the IPL 2023 with the batter being dismissed for a duck against CSK at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.

Rohit owns a plethora of records be it in international cricket or IPL but this time he found himself on the wrong side as he became the player with the most ducks in the history of the Indian Premier League.

This was Rohit’s 16th duck in IPL, the most by any player in the league’s history. West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine, Indian batters Dinesh Karthik and Mandeep Singh have 15 ducks each.

In the match, Rohit did not open the innings. He batted at number three but the change did not do anything good for the skipper as his struggles in the current season continued with a three-ball duck.

This season has not been a good one for the MI skipper. In 10 matches, he has managed only 184 runs at an average of 18.40 and a strike rate of 129.58. He has scored only one half-century in the tournament, with the best score of 65.

The WTC final is scheduled to be held at the Oval in London from June 7-11.
Rohit’s barren run with the willow continued as Chennai Super Kings broke a 13-year-old home jinx against Mumbai Indians with an easy six-wicket victory at the Chepauk on Saturday.
The Indian skipper’s horrid run in IPL since the last edition continued as he failed to trouble the scorer for the second match in succession, leading to MI settling for a below-par 139 for eight against CSK.
It was a forgettable outing for Mumbai Indians and the biggest setback for them was the current form of their skipper, who was dismissed within the powerplay for the eighth time in this edition of the league.
