Ratha Yatra is celebrated every year in the month of Ashadha Ratha in various parts of the country. A massive procession is taken out from the Jagannath Temple of Puri, Odisha. This tradition has been going on for hundreds of years. According to the Hindu Calendar, this year, Ratha Yatra will commence on July 7, and conclude with the return journey known as Bahuda Yatra on July 16. Lord Jagannath is believed to be the lord of the Universe. According to Hinduism, Lord Jagannath is considered to be a form of Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Know the details of the sacred Journey:

As per the Vedic calendar, the Jagannath Rath Yatra will start at 8:05 Am on July 7

The sacred journey will conclude at 9:27 AM

The Ratha Yatra will then resume from 12:15 PM and will continue till 01:37 PM

Then the journey will again start at 4:39 PM and will continue till 6:01 PM

Significance and History of Jagannath Ratha Yatra:

This popular festival or Ratha Yatra has been going on for centuries. The auspicious festival is believed to have started in the 12th century. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna took out a Ratha Yatra with his sister Subadra and his elder brother Balram sitting inside a chariot. Since then, the tradition of Rata Yatra has started.

Ratha Yatra is celebrated in various parts of the country. Besides Puri, another Ratha Yatra that is very popular is Mahesh Ratha Yatra, which is held in the town of Serampore, West Bengal.

In this sacred journey, devotees play drums and chant mantras while they walk along with the chariot.
