MUMBAI: Caught in a controversy, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat Titans fast bowler Yash Dayal, clarified on Monday that his Instagram account was hacked and a post from his account that was shared on the social media platform, containing an Islamophobic cartoon, didn’t reveal his “true beliefs.”
“Dear all, there were two stories posted on my Insta handle today – both of which weren’t done by me. I have reported the matter to authorities as I believe my account is being accessed by someone else and used for posting. I am trying to regain full control of my Instagram account. I respect all communities and the picture shared today does not reveal my true beliefs,” Dayal said in a statement to the media.
Earlier, the post from Dayal’s account was deleted, but by then it had been widely shared, with its screenshots doing the rounds on social media. A while later, a post appeared on his Instagram stories, which read: “Guy’s [sic] apologies for the story it was just posted by mistake plz don’t spread hate … I have respect for each & every community n society”.

The 26-year-old pacer was carted for five consecutive sixes by fellow UP and Kolkata Knight Riders‘ batsman Rinku Singh on April 9 in the last over of an IPL game in Ahmedabad. He just played two more games for the Titans, who finished as the runners-up.
Dayal was bought by the Titans before IPL 2022, and played a key part in the team’s triumph in its inaugural season, picking up 11 wickets in 9 games.
