NEW DELHI: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has imposed financial penalties on the captains of two franchises, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), for separate offences committed during their recent matches.
Faf du Plessis, the RCB skipper, has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their narrow one-run loss against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on April 21, 2024.This was RCB’s first over-rate offence of the ongoing IPL season.

According to the IPL statement, “Mr. Faf du Plessis, Captain, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024.”

On the other hand, Sam Curran, the PBKS captain, has been penalized 50 percent of his match fees for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. The offense pertains to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision” during PBKS’s three-wicket loss to Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur on Sunday.

The IPL media release stated, “Curran committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offense and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”

The loss against Gujarat Titans was PBKS’s fourth consecutive defeat, leaving them languishing in the ninth position in the points table.
