NEW DELHI: Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has lauded Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav, drawing comparisons between him and South African legend AB de Villiers for their array of shots and effortless batting style.
Singh’s remarks came after Yadav’s stellar performance propelled Mumbai Indians to victory against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Yadav showcased his destructive prowess against RCB, smashing a scintillating 17-ball fifty to help MI chase down a formidable 197-run target in just 15.3 overs.
Singh, mesmerized by Yadav’s commanding innings, expressed relief that he no longer has to face such daunting batting displays.

“I have never seen someone dominating like the way Suryakumar does. Unbelievable. Where do you bowl to him? I am so glad I am not playing cricket now. At this age, where do you bowl to this guy?” Singh exclaimed during a show at Star Sports.
Singh highlighted Yadav’s versatility and ability to counter every delivery with a wide range of shots.

“He has got an answer for every ball you bowl to him, whether it’s a wide yorker, bouncer. He can play sweep, pull, upper-cut and I don’t know what else he can play. He is a different kind of a player,” Singh remarked, praising Yadav’s batting acumen.

Despite a rocky start to IPL 2024, Yadav showcased his resilience and firepower against RCB, bouncing back from a duck in the previous match against the Delhi Capitals.
Singh likened Yadav’s domination to that of AB de Villiers, hailing him as a superior version of the South African maestro.
“Suryakumar is in a different league. When Suryakumar Yadav shines, no one can survive. We have all seen AB de Villiers; unbelievable player! But when I see this guy, I think he is a better version of AB de Villiers. He has won more games for his franchise than anyone playing now in this format,” Singh praised.
