Ganesh Utsav has begun and the idol of Lord Ganesha has been installed and is being worshipped as per rituals across several homes in the country. Although the festival lasts 10 days, many people are not sure about the correct day for idol immersion if they cannot continue the worship until Anant Chaturdashi, the 10th day.

Talking to News18, astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal from Deoghar in Jharkhand said that the Ganesha idol should be worshipped for 10 days. However, if the idol has to be immersed earlier, it should not be done on any random day, as this could lead to inauspicious outcomes.

If the idol needs to be immersed earlier, it should be done on Panchami Tithi, which is the day after Chaturthi, that is, on the fifth day of installation, Mudgal said. “Worship Lord Ganesha at home, perform his aarti, and offer his favourite bhog before immersing the idol. By doing so, you please Lord Ganesha, who is believed to remove life’s troubles and bless his devotees with happiness and prosperity,” Mudgal added.

It is believed that worshipping Lord Ganesha pleases Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and that Lord Ganesha takes away all kinds of troubles from his devotees’ lives. Ganesh Utsav is celebrated for 10 days. During this period, aarti should be performed both in mornings and evenings, and Lord Ganesha’s favourite bhog should be offered.
