Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the Congress party destroyed public sector undertakings like BSNL, MTNL, HAL and Air India during its tenure and the current government has made efforts to turn them around.

“I was born in independent India and my dreams are independent…Congress said we sold PSUs and destroyed them. I want to ask them who destroyed BSNL and MTNL? Recall the state of HAl under Congress. They destroyed HAL and Air India. Congress party and UPA cannot run away from their failure,” Modi said while speaking in the Rajya Sabha.

He also said BSNL that the Congress destroyed is now moving towards Made in India 4G and 5G. HAL is showing record revenue generation and it has become Asia’s largest helicopter manufacturing factory. “We have turned around the story. Today LIC’s shares are breaking records…”

Modi said there were 234 PSUs in the country in 2014. Today, the number has increased to 254.

The prime minister said the strength of India’s youth in the world within sports will be recognised in the coming 5 years. During the period, the public transport of India is going to be transformed. The country will see Bullet Train and the expansion of Vande Bharat.

“In the coming 5 years, Made in India will echo in the semiconductor world, and we will be the leader in electronics…I launched a campaign for millet through the UN. I do not see that day far away, where in the coming five years, the superfood millet produced by the small farmers of our village will be available in the world market. Drones will be a new strength for farmers. I am sure that animal husbandry and fish farming will increase and we are going to create records,” Modi said.

The total market capitalisation of the BSE PSU Index, comprising 56 PSUs, has jumped 66 per cent to Rs 59.5 lakh crore since PM Modi’s speech on August 15 less than six months ago, earning investors Rs 23.7 lakh crore on current market prices.
