SRH, of which Lara is the head coach, chased down the target with 17 balls to spare. Rahul Tripathi top-scored with a 48-ball 74 not out and captain Aiden Markram chipping with an unbeaten 37.
“I must commend Shikhar Dhawan. I think it is one of the best innings I’ve ever seen in T20 cricket,” Lara told the IPL broadcasters.
“The way he shepherd the strike and totally just controlled the game,” added the West Indian legend.

Dhawan’s stunning knock included 12 fours and five sixes.
Chris Gayle also agreed with Lara and said Dhawan deserved a century which he missed by just one run.
“Shikhar was fantastic for his team, and when you keep losing wickets around you, it’s never going to be easy, and to hold the steady nerves and to actually get to that particular total and get to 99 as well,” said Gayle.

It was a much needed win for SRH, who had lost their first two matches of the season

The defeat was incidentally the first for Punjab in 3 matches they have played so far in this edition

The SRH win leaves only two teams – Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals – who are yet to open their points account

Shikhar Dhawan stood tall after Punjab were put in to bat. He carried his bat through the innings with a stroke-filled 99 not out off 66 balls

But barring Sam Curran’s 15-ball 22, none of the Punjab batters could register double-figure scores and PBKS ended up with a below-par 143/9

With spinners ruling the roost in this early part of this IPL, it was the turn of SRH leg-spinner Mayank Markande to excel

Markande took 4/15 and was ably supported by pacers Marco Jansen’s 2/16 and Umran Malik’s 2/32.

Punjab bowlers made run-scoring difficult for SRH in run-chase, and the resultant pressure brought wickets for Arshdeep & Rahul Chahar, who removed Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal

From 45/2 in 8.3 overs, the Tripathi-Markram duo added 100 runs in the next 8.4 overs to canter to victory

“I thought he deserved a hundred and that’s one of the best innings you will ever see in the IPL as well,” added the self-styled ‘Universe Boss’.
