India Women’s national cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur joined hands with Mattel India for their film ‘You Can Be Anything’ as part of Barbie’s 65th anniversary.
Since its inception, Barbie has become a symbol of empowerment, known for her stylish outfits and wide range of professions, from doctor to astronaut. Now, the iconic doll has ventured into a new chapter by stepping onto the cricket field. As part of Barbie’s 65th anniversary, the brand has teamed up with Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of India Women’s national cricket team, to launch the ‘You Can Be Anything’ campaign. This initiative aims to inspire children to tap into their limitless potential and explore diverse career paths.
In a recent Instagram reel, Harmanpreet’s cricket prowess adds a fresh dimension to Barbie’s legacy, as she trains five young Barbie fans on the cricket pitch in a short film. These lucky children were chosen through a nationwide campaign by Mattel India, hosted at Hamleys. Expressing her excitement on Instagram, Harmanpreet shared, “Thrilled to join Barbie in their groundbreaking ‘You Can Be Anything’ campaign in India!”
She further talked about her childhood experiences related to Barbie and how the doll played a part in her journey. She said, “Growing up in Moga, my sister’s journey from playing with her favourite Barbie teacher doll to becoming a real-life educator showed me the power of tangible role models. Barbie inspires not just dreams but real possibilities—from leadership and science to creativity and innovation.”
“Joining this incredible community of Barbie role models is a commitment to empower and inspire every girl to see beyond traditional boundaries and strive for their limitless potential. Like the support I received growing up, I want to ensure every young kid feels empowered to pursue their passions without boundaries, embracing the infinite possibilities ahead. Together, let’s inspire and empower,” she continued.
Like Barbie, the cricketer has undoubtedly shattered many glass ceilings, and now the collaboration pledges to inspire many young dreamers like her. Harmanpreet led India to the 2014 ICC Women’s World T20 semifinals, the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup final, and the Commonwealth Games silver medal in 2022. Since her debut in the cricket field, she has already earned an Arjuna Award (2017) and ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year (2022).
