But a recent experience shared by a traveller has raised many eye brows as the country is now being judged for its hospitality.
Recently, a tourist narrated an incident on a popular travel portal, which has gone viral. As per the narration, the tourist was charged €2 or INR 182 for asking to cut a vegetarian sandwich in half by an Italian restaurant named Bar Pace in Lake Como. He also attached the bill as proof, where one can see the charge as ‘diviso da meta’ written in Italian, which means ‘cutting in half’.
Apparently, this tourist ordered a vegetarian sandwich with a side of fries, water, espresso, and Coco Cola. Since he was sharing it with his friend, asked the restaurant to cut into half. When he saw the bill, he was surprised but paid the full amount without questioning the restaurant. However, he later took to this travel portal and shared his ordeal and wrote ‘Unbelievable but true’, and gave a one-star rating to this restaurant, which has got 4.5 average rating and over 100 reviews.

After the review, the owner of the restaurant defended these charges and explained that this was an additional service, and which must be paid off. As per the owner, it wasn’t a simple toast sandwich but consisted of French Fries inside it and took time to cut. Also, the sandwich was served in two different plates. She also told Italian media that if the customer would have objected to it then and there, she would have removed the amount from the bill.
